Erronous p0336 code on 2003 bonneville. Bonneville runs perfect but continues to set the crankshaft position code p0336. Sensor has been changed 2 times and all wiring checked by repair shop at a cost of $500 +. They now are suggesting that the ecu be "flashed" at a cost of $160.

For example, most Ford V8 engines have cylinder number 1 on the passenger side (left side when viewed from the front of the car). This means that’s bank 1, and that’s where the CMP sensor the code is referring to is located. Meanwhile, most Chevy V8s have cylinder number 1 on the driver’s side.
